THE RAMCHARGERS RACING TEAM

One of the best known factory-sponsored race teams in drag racing history was the Chrysler factory engineers known as the Ramchargers. They started racing in 1959 and dominated super-stock and funny-car racing throughout the muscle-car era, setting countless world-records and first-ever achievements. Their innovations and distinctions include racing the first Dodge super stock car, the first 426 Hemi race car, the first supercharged 426 Hemi, the first Top Fuel 426 Hemi, the first tube-framed Chrysler Funny Car, and the first Chrysler race car to win an NHRA Super Stock event. Back in 1963 they were the first to break the 11-second barrier in a Super Stock car. They won National titles across more categories than any other drag racing team in history, and were the first to officially break the 9-second, 8-second, 7-second and 6-second time barriers.

THIS CAR

This 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda was part of the famous Ramchargers Race Team, and was one of the most famous and successful cars in NHRA super-stock racing history. This car is documented as the ONLY Ramchargers team car known to exist, as it is believed that all others have been lost or destroyed.

This car started life as an original BS23R Hemi Cuda, and still retains its original VIN tag on the dash. It was converted to a race car in 1974 by Dean Nicopolis, who raced the car with the Ramchargers team until 1986. This car won 37 NHRA “Wally’s” for SS/DA class wins in national events, and was overall winner at the IHRA Summernationals, and two-time overall winner of the Popular Hot Rodding event. The car was virtually unbeatable in its day, and won many other events and set countless records.

The car has also won numerous car shows, including a two-time win at the Detroit Autorama, and a special award winner at the prestigious Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance. It has been featured in multiple magazine articles and features, including the covers of Mopar Collectors Guide and Super Stock and Drag Illustrated. The car has been displayed at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum and was inducted into the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1996.

The car is fully documented and authenticated and has been expertly restored by Dean Nicopolis to concours condition.
